Our Pastor

  Reverend Nazim B. Fakir M. Div.

Nazim B. Fakir is a native of Detroit, Michigan, born to Abdul “Duke” Fakir and Inez Clinscales Fakir; he was educated in the Detroit public and private schools graduating from East Catholic High.  Reverend Fakir received the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Summa Cum Laude from the University of Detroit Mercy.  

While attending The University of Detroit he also received the Deans Honor Award, the Business Administration Award and was inducted into the Alpha Iota Delta and Beta Gamma Sigma, National Business Academic Honor Societies.  

Reverend Fakir received the Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois; while studying at Garrett he received a full-tuition Leadership Scholarship, he served as a member of the Garrett-Evangelical Board of Trustees, and served as Co-chair of the Garrett-Evangelical Black Seminarians.  Additionally, he was one of two students selected to serve on the President’s Strategic Planning Committee, as well as serving on the Visioning Task Force and working as Student Coordinator for Garrett’s Center for the Church and the Black Experience. 

Reverend Fakir was called by God while attending Oak Grove AME Church in Detroit, Michigan; he was admitted into the Michigan Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in August of 2000, ordained an Itinerant Deacon in August of 2006 in Grand Rapids, Michigan by Bishop Philip Robert Cousin Sr., and ordained an Itinerant Elder in August of 2009 in Kalamazoo, Michigan by Bishop John Richard Bryant.

At Oak Grove he worked with and facilitated many ministries while serving as an associate member of the ministerial team.  Rev. Fakir has served as an associate at Ebenezer AME Church in Evanston, Illinois, and at St. James AME Church in Chicago, Illinois.  In October of 2008 Reverend Fakir was appointed by Bishop John Richard Bryant as the pastor of Celia Gregg AME; he is the thirteenth pastor to lead this congregation. 

Reverend Fakir is a Man of God who seeks to fulfill the Kingdom agenda in his life and ministry, and he is excited about what God is continuing to do in his ministry as he attempts to take Celia Gregg to even higher heights of spiritual growth and service. 

He has been married to the Reverend LaTonya A. Fakir, his partner in life and ministry, for fifteen years and they have three beautiful daughters; Yazmin, Najma and Ilana.
